Hesh, Martin finshes their Bodies & Necks separately. Here's a video-short on Martin History & Process (I'm a Martin fan!) http://www.webcastgroup.com/client/start.asp?wid=08708110517 92 |

I'm surprised they're not using vacuum for clamping. Martin has done their finishing on steelstrings with the neck off since 30s, that I know of. Sure makes clean neck resets easier! Gibsons resets, ecchhhhh! edit: looks like Rich and I were typing about the same time. |

What surpises me in the Martin video is that no-one is wearing masks during the spratying and sanding of the finishes and bodies, yech, Also what amazes me {but doesnt surprise me} is the continued assertion and assumption that Martin invented the X brace, I personally know that Marc Silber has in his possession, several examples of X braced guitars that predate the earliest Martins by 20-30 years. A couple of Russian Brothers living in London in the mid 1800's were creating guitars this way before the inception of Martin X braced guitars, perhaps even they werent the first.
